This autumn and winter, Café Strauss becomes a small Opatija atelier, a place where creativity, coffeehouse culture, and the artistic spirit of the town come together.
Atelier Strauss presents a series of creative workshops designed for relaxed socialising and the discovery of new techniques, inspired by the flavours, imagery, and stories of Opatija. In the elegant setting of a traditional café, art finds a different rhythm: slower, more playful, and made to be enjoyed.
Coffee Painting, powered by HUG&PUNCH
What happens when coffee leaves the cup and finds its way onto the canvas?
In this creative workshop, coffee becomes an artistic medium. Guided by Nives Trusić, participants will explore its different shades and learn how to use them to create shadows, depth, and texture, transforming familiar Opatija scenes into their own original works of art.
Inspiration will come from the surroundings – the Lungomare promenade, historic villas, seascapes, and architectural details of the Belle Époque era. No previous painting experience is required; curiosity and a desire to create are more than enough.

The arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau has long been a reason to celebrate. At Café Strauss, this year it also becomes an invitation to create.
With a glass of wine close at hand, participants will discover the unusual technique of painting with wine, using different shades of red to create motifs inspired by vineyards, autumn landscapes, and the colours of the season.
In a relaxed workshop setting, guests will also discover fascinating details about the tradition of Beaujolais Nouveau and see how wine can become far more than something enjoyed from a glass – it can become an unexpected artistic medium.
